Summit County Probate Court receives $40,125 grant

Published: April 9, 2026

AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Probate Court is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $40,125 from the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health in support of its assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) program, New Day Court.
New Day Court is Summit County Probate Court’s nationally recognized program, designed to provide court-supervised treatment to individuals in the community who are living with serious mental illness. Rather than inpatient hospitalization, AOT allows participants to receive structured, community-based care—including psychiatric services, medication management, therapy, and case management—while maintaining their independence and connection to their families and support networks.
This grant funding will help sustain and expand New Day Court’s capacity to serve Summit County residents, ensuring that individuals in need have access to the critical mental health resources and judicial oversight that the program provides. Studies consistently demonstrate that AOT programs reduce hospitalizations, emergency service utilization, involvement with the criminal justice system, and homelessness among program participants.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health for this award,” said Judge Stormer, Summit County Probate Judge. “This funding reflects a shared commitment to providing compassionate, effective treatment to individuals living with serious mental illness. New Day Court changes lives, and this grant allows us to continue that vital work in our community”.
The grant underscores the State of Ohio’s ongoing investment in community-based behavioral health solutions. The Summit County Probate Court will use the funds in accordance with the grant’s requirements to strengthen program operations and maintain services for New Day Court participants.
