Normally (whatever that was) a list of the top products of a calendar year comes out some time in the first quarter of the following year. But not in 2020, where each week seems like a decade.
So, ¾ of the way through 2020, the amazing folks at Technolawyer (actually Robert Ambrogi) have a top-10 new product list of a year that it seems will never end. I have covered some of these, but this is a nice list (top nine, actually).
The top product is TrialLine (https://trialline.net/), a web-based timeline creator. Being able to visualize a case timeline provides an invaluable tool for understanding complex cases. The web-based platform allows everyone involved with the case to see the timeline on individual computers. TrialLine provides several views of events, including Relative, which shows events spaced accurately, Carousel, which shows the sequence of events in a compact manner, and Slide, which shows a detailed view of each event.
Zola Suite (https://zolasuite.com/) is a full-functioning practice management system that has been around since 2017, but which has improved itself enough to warrant inclusion on a list of new products.
I recently covered Word LX (https://infowaregroup.com/word-lx), a Word add-on that works to ensure style consistency across the firm’s document production and also can act as a clause/document builder. It resides on the Word ribbon.
Tracers (https://www.tracers.com/legal-professionals/) is a public records search engine that does a better job than Google in this area. “Tracers includes assets, court records, residences, social media profiles, and more. Tracers can also fetch records from courts and government offices not yet online.”
CourtLink (https://www.lexisnexis.com/en-us/products/courtlink.page) is a LexisNexis court records search engine. Searchers can ask for records from any number of topics, including litigant, law firm, judge and more.
Lawya (https://www.lawyaw.com/) is affordable legal document automation software. No word on whether or not it was developed by Bob Loblaw.
Zola (https://www.zolacrm.com/) is a cloud- based legal CRM. Sort of a Salesforce for lawyers (congrats on Salesforce pushing Exxon out of the Dow!).
Panoramic (https://legal.thomsonreuters.com/en/products/panoramic) combines workflow management with firm knowledge management. It has a limited release at this point, but seems like a very future-of-the-law-firm kind of product.
Actionstep Express (https://www.actionstep.com/us/plans/express) is an out-of-the-box practice management and workflow system for small firms. Maybe the first product a new lawyer would want.
